STAGE DEMONSTRATION DETAILS

MODEST IS HOTTEST FASHION SHOW

The Modest is Hottest Fashion Show was at the Round Bobbin Springfield Quilting and Sewing Expo!
Born out of a frustration with a culture that wants our kids to grow up a little too fast, and a refusal to accept fashion rules determined by pop culture icons, the custom boutique industry has taken the fashion world and turned it on its head! Thousands of fashion forward designers and seamstresses have developed this grass-roots industry to meet the demands of even more fashion conscience moms, aunts, and grandmothers who are on the search for trendy, yet age-appropriate, clothing for kids. Attendees who have had the same frustrations with the skimpy and mundane choices retailers offer the kids in their life, skipped the mall and attended the Modest is Hottest Fashion Show on April 9 and 10 at the Springfield Exposition Center, 635 St. Louis Street, Springfield, MO.
The Modest is Hottest Fashion Show featured clothing by trendy, local designers Sandy Higgins and Jenni Buentello. DETAILS

The Bridal Quilt –
This special attraction was at the Sewing Machines Express booth at the Round Bobbin Expo.

"The Bridal Quilt" was created from twelve donated wedding gowns. Eight quilting and sewing friends decided to take on the challenge of designing and sewing together a quilt that would then, in turn, be put up for auction and the money donated to The American Cancer Society. The friends shared, “Most of us had made Jenny Haskins quilts which involve lots of embroidery and techniques. We had all learned heirloom techniques by attending Martha Pullen classes and had all experimented with crazy quilting. We decided on the size of the quilt and then each of us designed three blocks of various sizes using the fabric, lace and trims from the bridal gowns. These were then sewn together and borders and binding added to complete the quilt.”

Those contributing to this quilt are Betty Brewer, Jill Bright, Corinne Cox, Suzie Gold, Judi Hart, Phyllis Hooker , Diana Taylor, Elaine VanNoy.

The Gee's Bend Experience Quilt Exhibit & Book Tour
The Round Bobbin Quilting & Sewing Expo featured the quilts of Gee’s Bend sisters Tinnie (“Tiny”) and Minnie Pettway and other resident quilters and also the book of poems, short stories and ‘tidbits’ from Gee’s Bend’s first published author, Tinnie Pettway, The Gee’s Bend Experience (available on www.amazon.com) MORE DETAILS ABOUT THIS EXHIBIT

Newborns In Need Charity Sewing during Round Bobbin Quilting & Sewing Expo
Newborns In NeedThe Springfield Missouri Chapter of Newborns in Need was at the Round Bobbin Quilting and Sewing Expo April 8-10. Six booths were dedicated to this charity sewing event. Attendees who participated in the "sit and sew" with this chapter helped make quilts for Newborns in Need. Sewing for a few minutes or for a few hours -- all the quilts went toward a wonderful cause.

Thanks to Sewing Machines Express for providing Brother sewing machines and Janome sergers for this charity sewing event.
