Hands-on Workshop, 6 Hours, Thursday 10:00am - 5pm. Limit 20 students.

During class, you will learn how to make a variety of edge treatments. You will be making samples that you will take home and can later refer to for finishing the edges of your quilts. You will learn to make a regular, double-fold binding with mitered corners, connected tails and hand finishing. Also in class, you will make a scalloped edge, continuous and individual prairie points, a rick rack binding, single and double pipings, a reversible binding and a fusible binding. Kathy will discuss the history of edge treatments, grain lines, Amish bindings, faced edges and machine finished edges.

Wacky Rails, Color Manipulation
Lecture, 1 hour, Thursday 9:00 am - 10:00am

This class focuses on an easy striped pieced quilt that gives you a different look each time you make it. Color manipulation is the key to changing the look of the quilt. Learn to manipulate color and movement in this easy to make quilt.

Fat Quarter BAG
Hands-on Workshop, 2 Hours, Thursday 9:00am - 11:00am. Limit 20 students.

Are you looking for a project that uses fat quarters or leftover fabric? Would you like to use those samplers from longarm or quilting classes? Great for beginners or the seasoned stitcher, this bag makes a great quick project and/or gift. The easy to make bag uses a new zipper application that includes several features on the machine to make the task easier. Learn quick miters. Use sewing machine feet to your best advantage for fast and accurate finishing touches. Acquire immediate satisfaction and walk out of the classroom with a finished project and the knowledge to make more.
Bring basic sewing supplies (off-white thread, scissors, pins with big heads).

Hands-on Workshop, 3 Hours, Thursday 9:00am - 12:00pm. Limit 20 students.
Instructor: Veronica Cox, Bear Thread Designs
We'll make a signature quilt top that is great for a weekend retreat with friends, you can collect signatures at a wedding, baby shower, birthday party or any specail family gathering. This is great for "remembrances." This quilt has 20 blocks in it, but you can add more if needed.
Please bring a small rotary cutter, mat and ruler if you have them. No bigger than a 12" cutting mat and ruler for this class only.

Say goodbye to any conventional way of using stippling to fill in negative spaces on any quilt. This very unique, easy to understand and easy to execute technique will have your creative juices flowing, as you can add your own twist to Irena’s ideas. From very dense to allover, this technique is very forgiving and the visual effects are very impressive. No planning ahead and no marking of the background designs are required.
Supply List: bring drawing pad with no lines or grid and pen or soft pencil

Can’t sew? Can’t use a serger? Can’t quilt? This is the class for you. We will be using the Bernina Stitch Regulator to quilt and a serger to put in a zipper. You will leave class with a new clutch.

Hands-on Workshop, 3 Hours, Thursday 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Limit 20 students.

Pick one from a trio of whimsical frogs. They all use the same technique with The Applique Pressing Sheet and fusible web. This is a "no stress" fun filled class where you will learn all the tricks of the trade, learn which fusibles to use and why and the fabrics best used in raw edge applique.
Supply List: Please bring 5" non stick scissors; if you can't find them, some will be available for sale in the Bear Thread Designs booth. And bring neutral colored thread and all sewing supplies normally needed for sewing classes.

The Hands On Hand Dyes dye kit gives you all of the tools, fabric, dye, chemicals, and instruction that you will need to make beautiful hand dyed fabrics in just a few hours. This fast, fun and affordable method makes it easy to start your projects with fabrics you have hand dyed yourself. You will learn to mix color and create your own full spectrum, colorwheel pallet. Then you will create a light, medium and dark value of each of those 12 colors! You will dye 36 fat quarters (9 yards) in only 3 hours. Suitable for Confident Beginners to Advanced
Instructor: Nadine Thompson, Somewhere In Time
Nadine has long been fascinated with Baltimore wreaths that feature complex center appliqués. She has always felt that is was like having two blocks in one square. “My Roses For You” comes from the center of a block she created to honor that style. This eight-inch block is manageable, yet offers a challenge for the experienced stitcher as well as the confident beginner. Techniques include small circles, ultra suede appliqué, layered appliqué; tiny stems reverse appliqué, and embroidery.
Supply List:

  1. One ten inch square neutral background fabric.
  2. ¼ yard freezer paper.
  3. Two pair small scissors. One for paper and one for fabric.
  4. Thimble if you use one
  5. Applique threads to match appliqué fabrics.
  6. Applique needles. I use sharps.
  7. Marking pencils for fabric.
  8. Personal sewing light and cord.
  9. Circleese if you have a set. I will share mine.

Fabric.

  1. One ten inch square neutral background
  2. Container: I used three fabrics. One five-inch square for base and reverse appliqué in vase. Scrap for the circles and an eight-inch square for the main sections
  3. Leaves and stems: Scrap of brown for stems, and a variety of greens for leaves.
  4. Whole flowers: Scraps for reverse appliqué flowers, layered blue violet flower, and layered red violet flower.
  5. Ruched flower. One yard (generous amount) ¼” to 3/8” wide shaded ribbon.
  6. Buds: One quarter yard shaded silk ribbon, one inch wide and one quarter yard shaded wire edge ribbon
  7. Glass beads for center of ruched ribbon flower.
  8. Five inch square ultra suede for calyxes.

Kit $25 includes the following: Background square. Fabric for stems, calyxes, leaves, flowers, and container. Ribbon in raw edged silk and wire edged, ultra suede, beads and full color picture of the project. The kit fee will be paid directly to the instructor during the workshop.
Students may bring their own fabric as listed above OR a kit will be supplied for $25 if the kit is ordered by March 1

Sewing Yoga
1 1/2 Hour Lecture, Thursday 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Instructor Kat Robinson, Active Kat Yoga
Sewing Yoga is a series of yoga postures combined with deep breathing designed to alleviate the aches and pains associated with sewing. The postures are gentle enough that even the most novice can do them. Come and learn yoga's deep breathing and gentle stretches that help relieve the tense shoulders, a stiff neck, and an aching lower back, and help circulation in the legs. Many postures can be done while sitting at your sewing chair. Bring your yoga mat with you. If you don't have one Kat will have them available to purchase for $15.
