Meet Me In Hawaii
Hands-on Workshop, 4 Hours, Saturday, 10:00am - 2:00pm. Limit 20 students.

Here’s your chance to make a fast and easy Hawaiian appliqué project. Traditional Hawaiian appliqué is done by hand but Kathy is going to teach you to finish your appliqué edges by machine. You will learn about the history of Hawaiian appliqué, how to design your own block, apply it to your background fabric and finish the edges with machine appliqué stitches. You will be making one Hawaiian block in class. It will measure 20” x 20” when finished. Your class project can become a wall hanging, pillow or the start of a new quilt. Kathy will discuss border and quilting possibilities.
Supply List: Basic sewing supplies including a small sharp-pointed scissor for cutting paper, a small sharp-pointed scissor for cutting fabric, a mechanical pencil and eraser, straight pins and a seam ripper.
Kit fee $20, which includes a set of patterns and instructions, freezer paper, Wonder Under, a background fabric (choice of black or white), a batik fabric for the Hawaiian design (a choice of colors) and polyester thread for the machine appliqué. The kit fee will be paid directly to the instructor during the workshop.

Quilt As You Go Tablerunner

If you have been wanting to try a quilt as you go project this is the class for you. It is the best technique out there. No hand work, it is all done on the machine and finishes with ease.

Applique The Fast, Fun Way
Hands-on Workshop, 3 Hours, Saturday, 9:00am - 12:00pm. Limit 20 students.

Pick one from a trio of whimsical frogs. They all use the same technique with The Applique Pressing Sheet and fusible web. This is a "no stress" fun filled class where you will learn all the tricks of the trade, learn which fusibles to use and why and the fabrics best used in raw edge applique.
Supply List: Please bring 5" non stick scissors; if you can't find them, some will be available for sale in the Bear Thread Designs booth. And bring neutral colored thread and all sewing supplies normally needed for sewing classes.

Creating the Perfect BAG!

Everything that can be made into a garment, pillow, wall hanging or quilt, can also be made into a handbag. Handbags are the rage and you need more than one. Discover how easy it is to make bags with character to fit your special needs. Whether making a cute evening bag, holder for CD’s, or large carryall for everyday, there are tricks of the trade. Padded shoulder straps, chain application, corded piping, sew-in magnetic snaps, bag feet, and under construction essentials are some of the basics. There are tips for proper positioning of creative design for all styles of bags. Use handbags as a palette to play with your sewing machine while creating bags uniquely your own. They are so much fun. View many bags from Linda’s collection.

Quilts of a Different Color
Hands-on Coloring Workshop, 3 Hours, Saturday, 9:00am - 12:00pm
Suitable for All Levels
Instructor: Irena Bluhm, Irena Bluhm Designs
Learn how easy it is to apply color using colored pencils to a small, already quilted piece, ready for painting. You don’t have to be an artist, just try to paint what you see. Don’t shy away from using bold colors and stark contrast to create a drama. You can learn how to do the shading in order to make your designs look dimensional. It is a lot of fun and very relaxing. Irena feels very passionate about what she is doing and loves sharing her experiences, the good along with the bad, so you don’t have to go through the pain of learning the lessons the hard way like she did.
Kit fee $35, which includes one quilted sample (12” x 12”), ready for color application, two sets of 12 colored pencils, one set of six brushes, plastic dispenser cup, 2 oz. textile medium, paper pattern package, CD with all information about the coloring technique, plus another CD with 367 images in color. One Stick Wonder
Hands-on, 1 hour, Saturday, 9:00am - 10:00am

Diana Taylor, the inventor of Ficklesticks and the author of Fast, Fun and Easy Fabric Ficklesticks by C&T Publishing,will show you how to make those zany, bendable patchwork and wire sticks! By finishing up one conveniently pre-stitched and pre-turned 36" Ficklestick, the students will learn how to manipulate it into several variations on a bangle bracelet, or one of three kinds of pendants: a daisy, a squiggle or a heart. Students will have a wide assortment of patchwork fabric tubes to choose from, and later will select a neck cord that best suits their creation! Each will take home a finished necklace or bracelet. Needlenose pliers and other tools will be provided for use during the class.

By using these techniques with the proper feet, zippers will be trouble free the easy way for bags, pillows, and garments. Learn five quick ways to install zippers with fun projects. Let the zipper make a statement on your next project by using decorative zippers. The opportunities are endless and the results are so much fun.

Refined Embellishments for Creative Sewing

Can’t sew? Can’t use a serger? Can’t quilt? This is the class for you. We will be using the Bernina Stitch Regulator to quilt and a serger to put in a zipper. You will leave class with a new clutch.

Fusible Applique Flower
Hands-on Workshop, 3 Hours, Saturday, 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Limit 20 students.

Learn how to make a raw edge applique flower using The Applique Pressing Sheet along with fusible web. Learn what notions, fabrics and fusible are better than others and why. We'll talk about different ways to quilt your quilt and hopefully have time to get started quilting. We'll talk about the different types of thread and I'll bring some for you to try. If you would like to bring something to play with and practice quilting, bring a quilt sandwich of about 12" square.

Mall Applique - Food Court Not Required

If you've been to the mall lately, you've probably noticed that ragged applique is one of the hottest fashion trends going right now. The more worn out it looks, the better! This class teaches you speedy methods for creating a custom applique design that has trend appeal! Here's what you'll learn: The steps used to apply more than one layer of applique, types of fabrics that create the best results, techniques in reverse applique, and methods used to rough up the final product so it looks like it came from the hottest store in town. If your mouth is watering over how to transfer ideas and designs from your imagination to the trendy items you want to create, then make it a point to join us! (Basic digitizing knowledge is helpful but not required).

The Way We Were
Hands-on Workshop, Saturday, 4 Hours, 1:00pm - 5:00pm
Suitable for Beginner to Intermediate

The Way We Were is one block from a small quilt with designs based on twenties and thirties days of the week dish towels. This is a block that combines simple needle turn appliqué and redwork embroidery. Class time will be spent on this one block. The supply list begins with the basics and then the information is added for working on one block to learn technique. The list finishes with the details for making the whole quilt.
Basic sewing supplies needed for the one block that will be worked on in class includes the following. If you plan to make the whole quilt eventually, the fiber requirements are listed below.
Supply List:
- Small scissors
- Embroidery and appliqué needles
- A fine point permanent pen such as a .01 Pygmy pen by Micron. Color to match as much as possible your embroidery floss.
- Small amount of freezer paper
- Marking pencils for appliqué.
- Small embroidery hoop.
- Thimble.
- Cutter, mat and ruler if planning to cut squares in class. (Optional)
- Small rulers or other straight edge.
Project supplies: Bring the following to make your block in class.
- One ten inch block background fabric
- Scraps for appliqué
- Embroidery floss to match or contrast with appliqué fabric.
Project supplies needed to make the entire quilt later are listed below:
- Total background fabric is one and one quarter yards. Come to class with at least one ten-inch square cut and ready to go.
- For bonnets and dresses, 1/8 yard or scraps for each block.
- 1/3 yard or scraps for border flowers.
- A fat quarter for border leaves.
- One yard backing fabric.
- One third yard for binding.
- One yard lightest weight batting.

Sewing Yoga
1 1/2 Hour Lecture, Saturday, 2:00pm - 3:30pm

Sewing Yoga is a series of yoga postures combined with deep breathing designed to alleviate the aches and pains associated with sewing. The postures are gentle enough that even the most novice can do them. Come and learn yoga's deep breathing and gentle stretches that help relieve the tense shoulders, a stiff neck, and an aching lower back, and help circulation in the legs. Many postures can be done while sitting at your sewing chair. Bring your yoga mat with you. If you don't have one Kat will have them available to purchase for $15.

Drawn Thread Hand Towel

Love the look of vintage heirlooms? Well now you can create them in a fraction of the time on our sewing machines. Remove threads, then add decorative and heirloom stitches in several combinations. You will be amazed at how fast and easy you can create today's heirlooms. You will need to bring a size 100 wing needle with you to the class. The kit fee will be paid directly to the instructor during the workshop.

Intro to Hand Applique
Hands-on Workshop, Saturday 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Before you make up your mind that you will never appliqué, you should take this class and give appliqué a chance. This intro class will show you how easy, rewarding, and portable appliqué can be. You will soon be over the fear of the "A" word. The kit fee will be paid directly to the instructor during the workshop.
