Christine Dabbs
We are honored to have Christine Dabbs, author of Crazy Quilting; Heirloom Quilting; Traditional Motifs and Decorative Stitches, and top award winning hand needlework artist as our guest artist. This will be the first exhibit of her complete works (with the exception of those in private collections) and include her elaborately hand embroidered Crazy Quilt pieces as well as those done with Stumpwork. Stumpwork is a 17th Century art form of raised and padded embroidery, commonly incorporating dimensional botanicals and insects and using such techniques as surface stitchery, padded applique, needle lace, wired edged needle woven leaves and other shapes that are completely elevated from the fabric background. Christine’s exceptional artistry and workmanship has won her international recognition and her works are considered highly sought after masterpieces. They are all entirely made by hand.
One of the highlights of her exhibit will be the crazy quilt that Christine was commissioned to make for the move How to Make an American Quilt. The quilt was sewn in several different stages of completion because of filming requirements. These separate quilts will be on display at this show, providing a fascinating glimpse into the making of a stunning piece of artwork.
